What is a celebrant?
As an independent wedding celebrant I can create, and deliver, a personalised ceremony all about you and your partner. I will get to know you from the point of initial consultation, through conversations and a geeeeeky little couple’s questionnaire, so that I can write a script that is exactly how you want your wedding ceremony to be: unique, personalised, fun and memorable.
A celebrant-led wedding ceremony has no restrictions - it can have anything you like included, and be any length you wish. Your ceremony can have religious aspects or none, cultural traditions, modern twists, involvement from friends and family, any songs or readings that you choose…the choice is all yours. It is my job to make your ceremony as meaningful as possible for you both.
How is a celebrant different to a registrar?
A registrar is a council employee; a celebrant works independently.
A registrar will be selected by the council; you can choose whichever celebrant you get along with best and best reflects how you want your ceremony to be.
Registrars are likely to have multiple weddings on the same day during peak times, and they won’t be able to wait if your wedding is delayed for any reason, or the bridal party are running late. As your celebrant you would be my sole focus and only appointment on your wedding day so you don’t have to feel stressed about timings.
Registrars have a set, legal script to read; with a celebrant your script is unique to you as a couple, written especially for you.
A registrar-led ceremony tends to be around 15-20 minutes; a celebrant-led wedding ceremony can be as long as you wish to include everything you would like.
Registrars are only allowed to officiate weddings at a licensed venue, reducing your options and increasing the costs (licensed venues tend to charge significantly more). Celebrants can perform wedding ceremonies anywhere you wish, indoors or out, and it doesn’t have to be licensed.
Registrars are legally allowed to marry couples in licensed venues, given various restrictions. If you opt for a personalised celebrant-led wedding your celebrant can do all the things that make it a ‘wedding’ - the vows, exchanging the rings - but you will need to legalise your marriage at a registry office (this can be for as little as £50, depending on your local council).
Do you do other ceremonies too - funerals, naming ceremonies, vow renewals?
Yes, absolutely. I have done a vow renewal, celebrations of life (funerals) and naming ceremonies.
Please get in touch if you would like to chat about hiring me as a celebrant for any occasion.
